Blustery bluster

Oops I skipped a day! Actually I really had nothing to say yesterday, it was all essay essay essay!

Last night I met my gorgeous friends Emily Mears and Emma Seamark in a lovely country pub, and we chatted endlessly, ate bar snacks and put the world to rights! The pub was heaving, which was good to see, we're supposedly in a recession you know. I made my contribution to the local economy by having a tomato juice, which the girls thought was utterly disgusting but it really is gorgeous!

Today has been another of those weird autumnal ones, where you think the leaves will fall off the trees any day soon and the wind is biting. I've been working on my essay most of the day, and wondering whether I will ever crack it. This afternoon I totally gave up and went on a blustery but satisfying walk. I'm now looking forward to a roast chicken. Yummy!

Why do I always end my blogs on a culinary note??

That time before supper

Now seems like the optimum time to blog. It's the time when supper can't come quickly enough, and with at least twenty minutes until kick off I will no doubt launch myself at the nuts if I don't keep busy!

Today has been one of those thoroughly dull days: I'm trying to remind myself that it's less than 3 weeks before I start my PGCE and I must appreciate ALL spare time as for the next year I will doubtless have NONE. Nevertheless the chores I have done have been boring boring boring. I started a pre-course assignment that involves reading hundreds of pages of reports before writing 2,000 words on the National Curriculum. HMM... Wordcount so far = zero. I have also finally finished unpacking my university life back into my relatively small bedroom!

It's a strange feeling to finally have all my belongings back in one place, where they belong I suppose. I really am home now, and as much as that's fantastic, it's also sad. My three years of fun, frolics and freedom in Bournemouth are definitely over. On the bright side i'm back with mum and pops and Jack and the beautiful countryside.

I battled with the enormous hill behind our house this afternoon and although it was exhausting, 40 minutes later I feel fabulous and totally not guilty for eating two brownies earlier! Mezzin huh?

Very excited for tomorrow, I am having drinks with some of my very best friends in a pub with comfy sofas. Brill.

How time passes...

As you may know it has been a long time since I last put fingers to keyboard and mused about my life. You may be asking why I am writing now, or perhaps you are frustrated at the lack of commitment and will therefore refuse to read out of principle. There is however a clear reasoning for my desire to blog again and that is Julie and Julia; A sugar-coated, charming film about two women passionate about food and writing, perfect for the rainy monday evening that is battling against my bedroom window.

I had a fun, busy weekend spent with my boyfriend and many friends and family, but this evening arrived and I was alone. The rain has been pressing against the glass all day, and although I made it outside for my favourite woodland walk, I have spend most of the day in the confines of the house. I baked bread, and made brownies and enjoyed my Mama's insanely good butternut squash soup for lunch. All in all delicious.

It's only ten to ten and it's dark outside, I suppose that's a sign that autumn is on it's way. Perhaps that's a depressing thought, maybe, but I am a girl of the seasons. I love the excitement and newness of the first buds in spring, and that day when you can finally go without socks, or the first chill of autumn when you know you can soon put on a pair of tights that flatter your legs, and seemingly make the miniskirt once again acceptable!

Today there has been that chill in the air, and I have been homemaking, movie-watching and blogging, and overall it has been thoroughly satisfying.

Cheers to that.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to you all! (Or the limited number of you who read my blog)!

I have had a great family filled few days :) Saturday was back on the hunt for a new bathroom (have I filled you in on this)?? Well anyway i've chosen a snazzy sink and amazing tiling so i'm out on decision-making from now on... nothing else matters!!

Easter sunday was just how it was meant to be. I woke up beside my lovely boyfriend and we went out to feed the cattle, then we came back and ate breakfast, small as to allow room for a mammoth lunch. We had the following: Turkey, stuffing, mini sausages, carrots, broccoli, mange-tout, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, gravy, lemon meringue pudding, cream and ice-cream!! Oh and lots of chocolate!

Once it had all gone down the hatch we played a family game of monopoly, which lasted 3 and a half hours. It could have lasted longer but Jack and I had to leave for our second roast of the day (I wish I was joking)!!

We finished the evening by watching It's Complicated, which, although it was clearly designed for the 50 something, we both greatly enjoyed.

Today it's back to normality, and an early start on the dissertation before a dentist appointment. How grim. Oh well you can't win them all!

Happy monday?

How's today been for you? I've had a good one, however unproductive. It's funny how depressing Monday's can feel. Even though i'm lucky enough to be a student without the deafening alarm clock sounding at 6.30 in the morning, I still get the monday blues.

Today I've done very little really, I had lunch with my aunt, and the rainy hours whiled away. I've got an apple loaf in the oven, and i'm happily looking forward to Jack getting back from Reading. He left at 5am this morning and won't be back til 9. At least he'll have some nice grub to look for thanks to Waitrose!

I'm lounging now listening to John Mayer's album. I ordered a new Rascal Flatts album today as well as a new one by Keith Urban - for any of you interested in country music i'll give them a shabby, non professional review when they arrive!

Ciao for now

Sunday Sunday

It's been a while since I last wrote, and I can't pinpoint why that might be but here I am at 8.06 on a rainy Sunday evening and I feel like indulging you all.

I came back to Somerset for an extended Easter break from uni on friday. It was so lovely to be back in my room, unpacking and tidying so that I could feel like it was my own again. Mama and I went for our usual walk in the woods and got totally caught in a spring shower. It's so nice that the weather is turning and you can be rained on without the threat of hypothermia... or at least a bad cold.

Friday evening came and my best friend Sarah came round, chatting commenced and then we decided to go to the cinema and watch The Bounty Hunter, which, despite terrible reviews was actually totally enjoyable and indulgent. I'm unashamedly in love with Jenifer Anniston however so I could watch anything she's in. After all I actually enjoyed Marley and Me and I'm sure that had nothing to do with the dog, as I am not a dog person.

Last night I went to said Sarah's 21st birthday party, which was held in an amazing wooden hut with a barbecue going up through the middle of it. I was designated driver, which meant that not nearly enough champagne went down the hatch, but it was fabulous to see everyone.

Today has been wonderful. I love Sunday's in Somerset. Jack and I had a long lie in, only interrupted by someone phoning to say they couldn't feed the cattle this morning because they were stuck in a lift in Bristol after a heavy one!!

We had scrumptious lunch thanks to Mummy Mitch and went for a long rainy walk this afternoon, he's making the bed now and I can't wait to snuggle up and absorb whatever dull-but-cheery Sunday night telly comes my way. X

Home Sweet Home

I came back to Somerset yesterday to sort boring paperwork for my PGCE, and arrived to find the joys of mama's homemade butternut squash soup and homemade bread. So yummy. My auntie Bow was here to see me. I can't remember the last time i've walked through the front door and she wasn't sat at the dining room table, allowing my mother to ply her with hot beverages and heart-warming food.

It rained incessantly yesterday, just as it has done today, so we didn't get a chance to go out walking on my favorite route around the woods near my house, which was a shame, but homemade cake at teatime made up for that.

I'll probably head back to Bournemouth after finishing this. I miss the girls like a part of my family when I'm away so i'm trying not to imagine what it'll be like when we all leave the South Coast and start the next part of our journey.

Tonight was meant to be fish and chips, designed perhaps to distinguish Saturday night from the rest of the evenings in the week, when invariably we watch TV and eat snacks. I think i'll go mad and have a lovely waitrose ready meal instead. Far more virtuous and tasty!

It's been wonderful to be home, however fleetingly. Being with Jack and his family last night was gorgeous, but now I somehow miss him more now. Oh well it's only a week til i've decided to call it easter and come home! I'm working on my dissertation alone now so it's fairly portable.

Over and out for now xx
